Fanil's photographs are saying so much in such a beautiful and simple way. At first glance his subjects tell you their stories
of ethnic/tribal traditions in the light and style of 17th and 18th century paintings. This contrasting fusion suddenly provokes you
to look and think deeper as Fanil silently opens up a whole world of paradox influences
such as tribal vs. colonial, current vs. past, stoic vs. heroic.
There is dignity, truth and old world wisdom in his "statues" who are standing up for their traditions, immobile even when in motion,
maybe as a metaphor for standing still. Everything Fanil does is contradicting while he mixes these contrasts and unites them.
